06/06/2004 Of a personal note, later today, my youngest, daughter Katy, will graduate from high school as valedictorian of her class. She has worked so very hard to accomplish exactly that, and she has made this single goal her personal triumph. Katy will be going to Michigan State University in the fall to study physics and music. Needless to say, our family is nearly bursting at the seams with pure pride. Congratulations Punkie!
06/06/2004 What can I say? Black Tuesday has happened. I will refrain from commenting about it...for now, although my tongue is really sore from biting it for more than 4 days now, and the pressure is building up rapidly.

The dBASE Inc. newsgroups are down. But George Burt has generously setup a news server that users are slowly discovering. It can be found at news://news.dbasetalk.com. The server address is 65.61.159.85. Thank you, George.

We don't yet know what the future holds. I recommend that we sit tight for a couple of weeks at least to see what happens. At minimum, the current product will have a 'run' life of 5-6 years most likely. That is more than enough time to 'wait and see', and to 'retool' to another development tool if it's required.
02/15/2004 There is a new DiskSpaceEx.zip file on the dBASE 32-bit Files page. DiskSpaceEx.zip contains a simple dBL function to retrieve the correct free space in bytes available to the current user for any local drive, mapped network drive, or network share. Works with all 32-bit versions of Visual dBASE 7.x, dB2k 0.x, dBASE SE, and dBASE PLUS.
12/05/2003 I am looking for a few good field testers. Sorry I can't tell you here what is to be tested. I am looking for dB2K and/or dBASE PLUS application programmers/developers with intermediate to advanced skill levels for this testing. I'm sorry I don't have multi-language skills available here so minimal English communication skills are required. It doesn't matter whether you are an experienced field tester or not. I am more interested in you simply trying things out and clearly describing your experiences both positive and negative, and anything you encounter that you think might be a bug, and potential enhancement ideas. I am *NOT* interested in those who volunteer to participate and then don't provide feedback or add any real value to the testing process, so if that's your game, please don't waste my time and yours. Also, you will be required to sign a simple one-page Confidentiality and Nondisclosure Agreement to participate in this testing. Send an email to me if you are truly interested in participating. I will respond as quickly as possible after receiving your email. Looking forward to hearing from you.
07/26/2003 There is a new RegistryEx.zip file on the dBASE 32-bit Files page. RegistryEx.CC contains a small custom class which extends the Registry class in :samples:registry.prg to handle REG_MULTI_SZ value types in the queryValue method.
06/25/2003 There is a new RunWait2.zip file on the dBASE 32-bit Files page. RunWait can launch a Windows or DOS application or batch file. It will also optionally show or hide the application and optionally wait for application completion. It also optionally allows for setting the working directory used by the application. RunWait uses the WinAPI CreateProcess function. This function returns a handle to the newly launched application which is then passed to WaitForSingleObject to wait for the application's completion. This is a more reliable approach than searching for the application's window caption text and waiting for the application's window to close which is the approach used in FindApp in AppMgr32.PRG.
06/25/2003 There is a new FlashImage1000.zip file on the dBASE 32-bit Files page. FlashImage.CC is a subclass of the dBL Image class and is designed to emulate a web-style PushButton which surfaces OnMouseOver/OnMouseOut events which can be used to toggle the displayed image (or whatever else you might want to do) when the mousepointer enters and exits the image area. Included is a very simple sample form to demonstrate usage.
05/08/2003 It has been a _long_ time since I've updated this website. I finally took some time to at least do a minor update. I have updated or deleted existing out of date links and added a few new ones. I have also updated my personal information. Sorry, no new source code files at this time. I have some things in the works but they are not ready yet.
01/15/1999 It has been a while since I've updated this website. I haven't abandoned VdB or my committment to support it. There are a lot of rumors and speculation flying around regarding the future of VdB. I don't let rumors and speculation influence my decisions. I base my decisions on fact. And the fact is that nobody knows at the current time what the future holds for VdB. But I do know that VdB is still, by far, technically the best primary development platform for my needs. I've been extremely busy with VdB (5.x and 7.x) work for my clients which has impacted my ability to update this site as frequently as I had originally planned. Hopefully I'll be able to update this site with new information and files on a more frequent basis in the future.
01/15/1999 I've added a new TextClip class to the VdB 7.x Files page. TextClip is designed to be used in reports when you need to enforce clipping within the text object's boundaries.
10/07/1998 This site has been invited to participate in the dBASE WebRing. Our webring is organized and managed by Francois Ghoche, a fellow consultant and dBASE developer located in France. The webring helps to tie our virtual community together more efficiently and effectively. Thank you Francois for your time and effort in this endeavor! Check out our webring by clicking the link reference above. Or jump directly to other sites participating in the webring by clicking one of the link references at the bottom of this page.
